Page 2 of 9 of the period of investigation. The fundamentals of the Company were not encouraging and could not justify such a steep rise in the price of the scrip. The investigation revealed that certain entities, including Shri Chetan Mehta (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Noticee’), transacted in the shares of CNIL in a fraudulent manner and created price manipulation in the scrip.
Page 3 of 9 5. It is alleged that the Noticee, in collusion with another client, Shri Piyush R. Desai, had traded fraudulently and created price manipulation in the scrip of CNIL. The Noticee and Shri Desai were found to be connected. They had artificially increased the price of the scrip on thin volume by putting buy orders at significantly higher level than the last traded price of the scrip. The Noticee and Shri Desai had also acted as counterparty client for a number of each other’s trades.
